Dates are the second way into the catalogue after genre: if you know you want the 1890s, you probably also know you want gothic, decadence or detective fiction. These pages group every edition on the site by decade of first publication.
A decade page is only built when it holds at least six titles, so each one is a real shelf rather than a placeholder.
Books by decade
- Books first published in the 1850s — 12 titles
- Books first published in the 1880s — 14 titles
- Books first published in the 1890s — 19 titles
- Books first published in the 1900s — 18 titles
Questions readers ask
Why only four decades?
These are the decades the catalogue is densest in. New pages are added when a decade reaches six titles, so the site never publishes a near-empty year or decade page.
How is a book’s decade decided?
By first publication in book form, not by the date of the edition used. Where a work was serialised first, the book date is the one on the page.
Can I browse by year instead?
The decade pages are the smallest unit for now; the word count table lists every title with its exact year.
