The d’Artagnan Romances are three novels, not one: The Three Musketeers (1844), Twenty Years After (1845) and The Vicomte de Bragelonne (1847–1850), which is itself usually split into three or four volumes. editions.ink currently carries the first two.
The Three Musketeers is the adventure of four young men against Richelieu; Twenty Years After picks up the same four in middle age, during the Fronde, and is a darker and more political book. Reading them in order is the way Dumas published them, and the second assumes you know the first.
