The Count of Monte Cristo

Alexandre Dumas (1802–1870) was born in Villers-Cotterêts, the son of a revolutionary general, and arrived in Paris in 1823 with little more than a letter of introduction. He made his name in the theatre with the romantic dramas of the 1830s, then reinvented himself as the great serial novelist of the 1840s: The Three Musketeers, The Count of Monte Cristo and their sequels appeared first in newspapers, chapter by chapter, and were read by everyone.

The serial novels on this site are free in EPUB, AZW3 and KEPUB, complete and unabridged: The Count of Monte Cristo at about 464,000 words and Twenty Years After, the middle book of the d’Artagnan romances, at about 242,000.
