The Brothers Karamazov

Fyodor Dostoevsky (1821–1881) was sentenced to death for reading banned books, reprieved at the last moment, and spent four years in a Siberian prison camp — an experience that runs under everything he wrote afterwards. The novels collected here run from the early stories to the last book: White Nights (1848), Notes from the Underground (1864), Crime and Punishment (1866), written in a hurry to pay debts, The Idiot (1869), and The Brothers Karamazov (1880), finished four months before he died.

All are free in EPUB, AZW3 and KEPUB, complete and unabridged, mostly in Constance Garnett’s translations. These are novels of argument as much as plot — people talk to each other at length, and the talking matters.
