- Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus
The 1810s is the decade in which the novel of manners learned to hold a whole society in view. Jane Austen published four novels between 1811 and 1817 and left two more for the year after her death, while Walter Scott’s verse and prose turned Scottish history into fiction that the rest of Europe read.
Gothic fiction, already a generation old, produced its most durable book in Frankenstein (1818), and Washington Irving’s Sketch Book (1819) began the American short story. Everything below was first published between 1810 and 1819 and is available on editions.ink in EPUB, AZW3 and KEPUB.
