This page is the index to every classic novel, story collection, play and epic on editions.ink: all 172 titles, grouped by shelf, each linked to a page with the full text as a free EPUB, AZW3 and KEPUB download.
Start with: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë or Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. Each page carries chapter summaries, a word count, reading time and the free EPUB, AZW3 and KEPUB downloads.
The catalog runs from the sixteenth century to 1930, roughly where United States copyright begins to bite. It is a reading catalog rather than a completeness contest: every entry has been checked against its printed source, given a word count and a chapter guide, and tested for broken download links.

If you have not read a nineteenth-century novel since school, begin with a short one: The Yellow Wallpaper takes under an hour, The Gift of the Magi under twenty minutes, and An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge less than that. The short classic novels page lists every title under 60,000 words, and the word count table orders the whole catalog by length.
Frequently asked questions
Are all of these books free to download?
Yes. Every title is in the public domain in the United States, and the EPUB, AZW3 and KEPUB files are hosted on editions.ink itself: no account, no email, no paywall.
Why do some famous classics seem to be missing?
Anything first published after 1930 is still under copyright in the United States or is not yet reliably public domain, so it is not here. The catalog is also curated: a title is added only when a clean, proofread text exists.
How were the shelves chosen?
By the way people actually browse: genre first (detective, science fiction, gothic, adventure, children’s, philosophy, poetry), then the catch-alls: nineteenth-century novels and the short modern novel. Books appear on one shelf so the counts add up to the total.
Do the pages include summaries and spoilers?
Each book page opens with a spoiler-light overview, then a chapter guide that does reveal plot. The guides are collapsed in an accordion, so you can read the history and the first-page preview without seeing the ending.
